The 3000°C Test 🌡️ To endure the increased beam intensities and stored energies of CERN's next hadron collider, the High-Luminosity #LHC, the beam dump system - an essential part of the accelerator's machine protection systems - must be upgraded. Following extensive development and meticulous design, the HiRadMat experiment at CERN tested various materials' responses to beam impact. Proton beams were fired at them, heating them to 3000°C in mere microseconds. These results will guide the choice
